Gastronomic days in Sevilla

Opmega makes mussels fashionable in the Andalusian capital with its Gastronomic Days at the Encarnación Market.

Tastings, live showcookings with the chef Miguel Mosteiro and a tribute to the women bateeiras are the highlights of this campaign that brings the flavour of Galician mussels to Seville.

Seville, 7 November 2024. After the success of its tastings in Valladolid, the Organisation of Galician Mussel Producers (OPMEGA) has landed in Seville with its Gastronomic Days, filling the Encarnación Market with flavour and tradition.

Numerous customers have been able to enjoy the free activities that highlight the gastronomic and nutritional value of Galician mussels since midday. This initiative, which will last until 9th November, promises to continue to captivate the public with moments to taste and learn about this star product of Galicia, also known as the ‘black gold’ of the Galician estuaries.

Chef Miguel Mosteiro, known for his innovative approach to Galician cuisine, is in charge of the live exhibitions, where he shares with the public preparation techniques and recipes that highlight the freshness and unique flavour of Galician mussels. These demonstrations allow visitors not only to taste the different preparations, but also to learn about the traditional cultivation process in the mussel rafts scattered around the Galician estuaries.

An important representation of OPMEGA, headed by its president, Ricardo Herbón, and other prominent members of the organisation, travelled to the Andalusian capital to share the mission of this campaign and bring Galician mussels closer to Sevillian consumers.

The exhibition ‘Mujeres Bateeiras. El mejillón a través de las manos de las mujeres’ was another of the highlights of the event. The exhibition pays tribute to the Galician women who, with their work and dedication, have sustained the industry linked to this mollusc over the years, and has been a great success wherever it has been exhibited. Made up of 20 photographic panels, it portrays the historical importance of women and their legacy in mussel production.

Innovative gifts and formats

The market’s fishmongers have enthusiastically welcomed this OPMEGA initiative, offering vouchers exchangeable for recipe books and promotional gifts to those who buy Galician mussels. OPMEGA also presented its innovative trays of fresh mussels packaged in a controlled atmosphere, a solution that extends the freshness of the product in a practical format, ideal for microwave preparation.

These OPMEGA Gastronomic Days are part of a national campaign that tours traditional markets to promote the consumption of high quality Galician mussels while highlighting the role of these spaces as reference points for fresh and local products.
