OPMEGA trusts that Anfaco will decisively support the royal decree on trade names

The organization sees the regulation as a historic opportunity to strengthen transparency and competitiveness in the mussel sector

Vilagarcía de Arousa, September 16, 2025. The Organization of Mussel Producers of Galicia (Opmega) highly values the recent meeting held with ANFACO representatives in Vilagarcía de Arousa, where the main challenges of the sector were discussed. Following this dialogue, the organization considers it essential that this good understanding translates into clear support for the Draft Royal Decree regulating national trade names and the designations of preserved and prepared food products.

For Opmega, the approval and effective implementation of this regulation will mark a turning point in the defense of Galician mussels: “The Royal Decree will help eliminate doubts in the market, ensure truthful information for consumers, and strengthen the position of those of us who work with transparency and quality,” said its president, Ricardo Herbón.

The organization emphasizes that ANFACO’s commitment could be decisive in ensuring the regulation comes into force without delay. In this regard, Opmega encourages the canning industry association to even promote early implementation among its members, which would send a clear message of unity and responsibility to the entire sector and to society.

“Consumers have the right to know what they are buying, and producers have the right to compete on equal terms. We are not talking about privileges, but about fairness and recognition of the efforts of thousands of families who sustain the Galician mussel industry,” Herbón added.

Opmega trusts that the next ANFACO General Assembly will serve to confirm this commitment and consolidate a shared position that strengthens the competitiveness of the entire value chain.
